Mineral reserves 'good news': Omar

KABUL (PAN): The result of a US survey which discovered that Afghanistan holds nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits was "good news" for the Afghan people, the presidential spokesman said on Monday.

Marble imports land local industry in trouble: traders

KABUL (PAN): Some traders on Sunday complained marbles imports from Pakistan, China and Iran have had a negative impact on their business. Currently, there are 100 marble factories operating in Kabul.

Abdul Ali Jafari, a stone-cutting factory official, said one cubic metre of marble cost 700 afghanis ($14.1) to 4,000afs, but the same amount of Pakistani marble was sold for 300afs to 1,000afs.

Turkmenistan to increase power export to Afghanistan


KABUL (PAN): Turkmenistan has agreed to considerably increase the export of electricity to Afghanistan, the Presidential Palace in Kabul said on Sunday.

Currently on a visit to the neighbouring country, President Hamid Karzai signed four agreements with his Turkmen counterpart, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The agreements envisage power, railway, cultural and trade cooperation. The Turkmen president said his country wanted a stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
