Three guards of copper mine killed in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Three guards of the copper mine in central Logar province were killed and two more injured after a remote controlled bomb hit their vehicle here.

Muhammad Abid Jan, Crimes Investigation Department officer of Logar police headquarters told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast at around 4pm in Zahid Abad area of Mis-Ainak region hit vehicle of the special security unit assigned with guarding the mine, which is counted as one of the biggest copper mines around the globe.

The blast hit the vehicle of Com. Sabir who was busy in patrol with his personnel, he added, Sabir and two more policemen were killed on the spot two more were injured.

The wounded policemen were ferried to Kabul city for treatment, he added, the area had been cordoned off by law enforcement personnel who had launched serious investigations.

Mulla Momin Hakimi who introduced himself as local Taliban commander claimed the responsibility for the attack saying four policemen were injured including their commander in the blast.

The copper mine which witnessed another attack few months back is located 30 kilometers southeast of capital Kabul. The copper mine according to estimates has 12 million tons of copper.

The copper mine was contracted with MCC a Chinese company last year.
